Here is the image I received from ZackZackZack that I fell in love with when I got the sticker from him at the end of GLF in Michigan around August 18th. He was a live painter right in front of my booth, between Singing Waters Pottery and the fire circle… just next to the stage… I drew a cartoon of him painting as the rain started to come in for the first time of many that event, and we got to hang out and become friends. Without his help packing down from the event, I don’t know if we would have made it off property without staying an extra night…
Herbit the Doomscrolling frog
After dissecting a .png of Herbit, I used the lasso tool to cut out each part of the character (eyes, head, mouth, arms, torso, etc…) and then I filled in each part with color matched strokes to make them stand alone parts, like filling in the cellphone where the fingers covered it in the original image. I did not know how to deal with the original photoshop document I was sent because it was optimized for print so I just turned it into a .png and as I created layers out of it, I would work on a duplicate layer of the image and create a mask on that layer and then flatten the image which seemed to convert it to a bitmap that I could edit with the non vector brush.
After bringing the layered psd file into animate I converted each layer into a symbol and created an animation using motion tweens. I also want to use the bone tool and animate some flys around Herbit’s environment, and make it so that his tongue flicks out to catch flys on a click. I also want to switch between multiple animations and flush out his character while developing a cast of frogs and toads to play a fly catching game as.
